we all love running and for most, its been months if not years, of running. and crossing that finish line does bring so much happiness, regardless of the time it took for you to run your marathon. we get it, and we understand that its worthy of a significant celebration!
but when you put so many marathons in your belt, its also important to view marathon running from a whole new perspective. since 42.2km is no longer a distance that’s daunting, you might wanna create a mountain of it that’s challenging and daunting afterall! and this is where we experienced marathoners make the biggest mistake. no goals. period!
to create a challenging mountain out of that all too familiar marathon distance, you got to ask yourself, how long should i take to cross that finish line? way before your training starts, this question needs some serious thinking.
when you have a marathon goal you want to accomplish, a goal that’s challenging, a goal that drives you into unchartered territories, a whole new set of worries needs to be combat in order to achieve this goal.
and your training becomes an affair with a particular pace. if your goal was to complete the marathon in 3 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds, you begin a three month long affair with 5:41 minutes per km pace. this pace becomes your everything. this pace becomes your new viewing glass. its your compass. its your guide.
with this pace in mind, you start working your way in to believing that you are physically and mentally strong to sustain this pace for the 42km of your race! go too fast and you risk hitting the wall, and go too slow, you fail short of your goal at the end of the marathon race.
with proper training, intervals helping you build your speed, tempo runs helping you maintain your race pace, and the long runs guiding you for a strong endurance base, the whole training would suddenly become more meaningful for you.
we believe that we all should commit to a goal. that mountain you wanna climb. the goal should give you goose bumps. most ideally your trainings should allow you to reach 90% of the goal and giving away 10% for luck would ensure that you cross that finish line in absolute happiness! a “high” you for sure!
