Running

with just two day’s left to kick off the Coca-Cola LONGRUN 2018, we asked some of the trainers in TfG as to how one must prepare for the big day! the race day! and here’s the five most important advice TfG’s mentors were able to offer us;

  1. your trainings are over by now they say. these few days no amount of long running can help you perform on the day, in fact they agree it can only hurt your performance on the day. best things to do during these days is to get enough rest. so relax and just be calm.
  2. carb loading is essential. your diet must now contain more than 90% of carbs. rice, spaghetti and white bread are always the right carbs that can be stored in your system for your race. while fruits and vegetables are always good, a focus on carbs and hence a little bit more potatoes could also make that difference on race day.
  3. we are always living on hot climates. and running on the streets of hulhumale’ will be hot! it will require your body to remain hydrated throughout your run, whether its under 1 hour, more than 2 hours, more than 3 hours, or more than 5 hours! but according to TfG trainers, benefits of proper hydration happens if we remain hydrated throughout the days leading up to the marathon or half marathon or any specific race. so start now. drink enough of water. 2 to 3 litres per day could be a good idea!
  4. sleep well tonight! don’t wake up for your early morning runs. why? its simple, because if tomorrow is your race day, you will not be able to get quality sleep. your nervousness and your excitement alone can be your sleep enemies. so sleep today is the advice we got from TfG.
  5. last but not least, TfG trainers says that by now you must have a goal in mind for your race. you must have trained keeping this goal in mind and visualising your performance throughout the entire race, every km if you could, would be a great start. visualise today! right now! if you are a marathoner, what time will you be at the 5km point? what time do you think you can make it to the 10km point? at what km would you meet the beautiful sunrise? and imagine the feeling you will experience on the day! and make this imagination pleasant! positive visualization is a technique many professionals employ as well! why not you?

we hope these are important and essential points to keep in mind as you prepare for what could be the biggest running festival in in the maldives! certainly no other long distance event as Coca-Cola LONGRUN 2018. so don’t forget to bring your family, ask them to set their camera’s, because that smile on your face as you cross the finish line .. will be epic!
