obstacle running

muddy and slippery hands, myself soaked in water, as i was trying to reach to the 5th bar of those monkey bars, i realized i was in trouble. there were another few meters to go when my shoulders started to give up on me. in no time i was down on the ground. as i slowly stood up and tried to move forward i heard the volunteer calling out for the 30 burpee penalty. don’t be surprised it wasn’t my first time. i had already been penalized 03 times.

i did not care at all, with my lungs burning out i was at the burpee zone trying to complete the task. oh well, that wasn’t even a long race. it was on May 2017, Singapore the Spartan Sprint (07km+ 20 obstacles). i managed to pull off the race.

i never thought i will fall in love with these dirty and tough trails. but again life gives us surprises. during the year i managed to pull off 02 trifecta of spatan including a Spartan Ultra Beast which gave me a good knowledge of obstacle courses from 07km to 42km.

OCR (obstacle course racing) is a very young sport, but if we look at the history of OCR it goes back to the days of Georges Hebert, when he created his own fitness philosophy “the natural method” encouraging individuals to be strong, agile, fast and competent like tribesmen who lived thousands of years ago. the philosophy encouraged moving through various terrains and completing heavy tasks for long durations. there is evidence that obstacle racing was mostly practiced in the army to produce stronger humans. these were during the days of world war I and II.

if you look at the roots of modern OCR, it goes back to 1987 to an event called Tough Guy created by British army soldier Billy Wilson aka Mr. Mouse.

today there are hundreds of obstacle races around the globe that could mentally and physically challenge us. my life took a new turn with how i fell in love with OCR. i decided to explore more and introduce the sport to many like minded people. obstacle running can be a lot demanding to human body given that we have to run long distances with heavy tasks placed on the running terrain.

my OCR journey with TfG coming into lead process to produce obstacle racers. the biggest challenge i faced to introduce this sport to fitness enthusiast in maldives was the question they ask me “can i?” of course its tough but i would like to use fun to describe obstacle racing. it’s a happy sport. with this new sport coming in to our knowledge in the past year, TfG has produced 20 obstacles runners who conquered Spartan Races in malaysia, singapore and phillipines. we developed our skills to train and develop racers who can conquer tough terrains with challenging obstacles.

the idea of obstacle racing is the new trend in the running industry, we are certain that there will be hundreds of obstacle racers in maldives. with this hope we developed our new baby, a very powerful baby which is scheduled to debut in june 23rd on the beautiful island of kashidhoo.
